Sometime in October at the mid of a photography assignment I received a call from a friend asking me if I want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro over New Years. Without thinking I immediately said yes!
I was in no physical shape fit to climb a mountain and I didn’t even know what sort of preparation is needed to climb a mountain. But, I knew I can do whatever it takes and I knew I wanted to do this. Kilimanjaro was calling me.
From here on my mornings started at 6 am at the gym. I did that everyday before heading to the office. At the same time I started jogging and I signed up for Iron Girl 5K race. The journey getting ready for Mt Kili was beautiful. I felt strong, focused and motivated.
I had two months to prepare for Kilimanjaro. Ultimately I wanted to be mentally strong to face the challenge with one goal and one goal only, to reach the top of mount Kilimanjaro. The experience was like nothing I have ever done before. It was a tough journey. Still, I loved every minute of it.
I had the blessing to be surrounded by the most amazing people on this trip. I hiked all the way to the ceiling of Africa with the strongest and most supportive group. We were a group of 16 Arab girls from the Gulf. Eleven of us were from Bahrain, two from Kuwait, one from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq.
It really was the best decision I have ever made. Kilimanjaro is truly a life changing experience. I learned so much about myself and I’m still learning throughout this journey.
Here are some photos from the trip. I will share more posts about the trip soon.
